Hi, and welcome to GT Fitness. In this first post I want to introduce myself and explain why is started GT Fitness. Skip to the next blog post if you would rather read about my methods, ideas and future plans, for now I’ll start off with a little introduction about myself.
First things first, my name is Glenn Theunissen and I’m the founder of GT Fitness. Let me begin by telling you how I got into fitness and working out. It all started when I was very young and watched action movies at my grandparents’. Movies with action heroes like Stallone in Rambo and Rocky, but also other actors like Jean-Claude van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Lee. Every time I slept over at my grandparents’ I would watch an action movie with my grandfather. He used to work out himself and taught me how to do pushups and sit ups, which I started doing every now and then. Sometimes I also worked out with my father in our home gym but fitness and working out was never really a true passion.
Only after years of trying so many different sports in my life, from gymnastics to judo and from kick-boxing to free running. When I was about 12 years old I went to my first gym and I would do cardio and work out on the machines but after a year or so I quit since I was more into other sports. Eventually a few months before I turned seventeen a friend of my father’s came by and he was a bodybuilder, a really big guy, he was benching 375 pounds and squatting an apartment building if I recall correctly. So I asked him what I had to do to get as big and strong as him. He gave me my first actual workout routine and I started working out in our home gym, which would soon be too small. That’s when I got my first gym membership at a real gym, with real weights and real bodybuilders which meant no more machines, cardio and group sessions for me. For two, maybe three years I tried every program, advice and course out there to get big and muscular, I only got stronger and better at exercises but never much bigger.
About two years ago I finally found what worked for me, it didn’t only work for me but it worked for my friends and other people at the gym. I will give you the workout program I followed soon in another blog post, but first let me explain how it all works. It’s based on sufficient recovery and progressive overload which is exactly what you need as a natural lifter to get bigger and stronger. The weeks were split in two workout days which were a Chest, Shoulders and Triceps day and a Back, Legs and Biceps day. I build insane strength for my weight using these techniques and this routine and finally build some solid muscle. Look at my transformation picture, from 135 to 181 lbs!
So after training myself, my friends, doing research and really getting to know how and why it worked I figured why not try and share it with more people! So here I am, my first blog post telling you what I’m about. Now don’t judge me I have never written anything so this is new to me, but I’ll do my best to give you a good read and provide you with all the information you need to get as lean, strong and muscular as me. Follow the blog and like the Facebook page to stay up to date and receive news about the courses I will be releasing!
Thank you for reading, untill next time!
